I tutor Grades 9–12 math, Grades 9–10 science, and Grades 11–12 physics in groups of no more than 6, twice a week, at my home in Glen Abbey. Every student works on their own material at their own pace, and I spend our time on the fundamental that’s actually causing the trouble — not just this week’s homework.

I’m Vineet — I founded AspenPrep in 2019 and I’ve taught every session here since. I hold a B.Tech in electrical engineering and an MBA from Ivey, and I work in advanced analytics, which is mostly the same job as this one: finding the real signal in the noise, then working out where a student is actually stuck.

What a session actually looks like

  1. Check in

    We start with how the last test went, what class is covering now, and where things feel shaky.

  2. Explain, then pressure-test

    I explain the concept — three different ways if that's what it takes — then hand over hard questions to see if it really landed.

  3. Name the repeated mistake

    Most lost marks trace back to the same few errors. We put those in plain sight until the student can catch them without me.

  4. Practise, and read the real book

    Problems pitched a notch past where the student is comfortable, and the habit of reading a proper textbook on the hard topics.

Between sessions, students message me when they’re stuck on homework or prepping for a test, and I send back a hint — or the full solution, when that’s what it takes to get past the block. Students can also send me their school assignments and tests for feedback, and I send back practice questions to work by hand and hand in. The work keeps going between sessions, and students get better at seeing where they stand. I don’t let a student give up on a concept before the understanding is real.

Low 70s → mid-90s, in two years

One student joined in Grade 9 sitting in the low 70s. Two years of steady work later — learning to spot his own repeated mistakes, practising between sessions, bringing me the problems he couldn’t crack — he’s in the mid-90s, and every university program is back on the table. That’s the part of this work I look forward to most.

The practical details

The things worth knowing before you email — how a group works, what it costs, and whether you can start now.

How many students are in a group?
No more than 6, mixed across grades and courses. Everyone works on their own material at their own pace — a Grade 10 student and a Grade 12 student can sit at the same table without either one waiting on the other.
How long is a session, and how often do students come?
An hour at a time, twice a week. That cadence is what makes the between-session work possible: there's rarely more than three days between a question coming up and someone working through it with you.
Can a student join partway through a semester?
Yes, any time. Most students start after a test has gone badly, which is usually the point at which the real gap becomes visible. A block starts on the student's own start date, not on a fixed intake.
Is there a trial class?
The first class is a no-obligation trial. There's no charge for it if the student doesn't continue. If the family goes ahead, that class counts as the first of the first block.
How is tuition charged?
By block: eight classes in a subject, paid in advance, by Interac e-Transfer or cash. There's no contract and no sign-up fee, and a block already paid for is never repriced. Email us the course and grade and we'll send the current rate.
Do you tutor online?
Sessions are in person in Glen Abbey, but attendance is hybrid — students who live further out join remotely, and anyone can on a day when the drive or the weather is a problem.
Do you help with homework, tests, and exams?
Yes, though homework is the starting point rather than the destination — the time goes on the fundamental underneath it. Between sessions students can message with what they're stuck on and get back a hint, or the full solution when that's what it takes. They can also send assignments and tests for feedback, and get practice questions back to work by hand.
What if my child has gaps from an earlier course?
That's usually the actual problem, not a complication. A student struggling in MHF4U is often really struggling with MCR3U trig, and one in MCV4U with Grade 10 algebra. Finding the gap and closing it is the work, so it doesn't need to be diagnosed before getting in touch.
Do you teach IB and AP?
Yes — IB Math AA at both HL and SL, and AP Calculus AB and BC, alongside the Ontario curriculum.
